I’ve been longing to read a story like this for a while, without ever realizing that I wanted to.
It sounds peculiar, but a part of me has been waiting to find a story that cuts against the grain and finds a path to a different type of happily-ever-after. This is that book.
While the characters in this book are focused on fortifying a relationship with each other, whether familial, friendly, or romantic, I sense the deeper relationship occurs inside themselves. For it’s not without an honest, genuine, and trusting connection with yourself that one is able to authentically bond with another person.
You must know who you are and what you need in order to mesh with other people in the “right” way. And make no mistake, I don’t think there is a “wrong” way. There’s only the way that allows you to see your complete truth in the best light.
Friendship vs. love. They are at odds with each other in this story. Phronsie and Judd each have their complicated and confusing stories from their past. And even though they grew up together, each sees life through a different lens based upon their experiences and own families.
Some relationships encourage you to choose one or the other, friendship or love. And when you feel that pull toward one end of the seesaw or the other, perhaps that is a sign from the universe, much like the way Tenaj portrays her ability to feel things beyond what the physical world provides our five senses.
Small details make the biggest difference. And when tiny objects, ideas, or notions find a way to present themselves to us, perhaps the most important thing we can do is simple: pay attention to them. There is magic in found objects. Whether we can see them or not, we most definitely feel them. And perhaps that feeling is a quiet whisper from our heart. Like a feather dropping onto our skin, it’s a soft yet tickling sensation, just a hint of something that might be subtle yet undeniable, reminding us of what it means to live. Fully, now, and filled with magic.
