Time Has Come

This might be the most methodical read of my life. Four pages each day, neatly grouped into a cohesive and inspiring collection of poetry. While there is a big part of my mind that is definitively creative in nature, poems have never come easily to what feels like a bullish right-brained component to my persona. All that changed with this offering from Graham Wardle.

Each morning began with a watercolor drawing on one side of the page with a poem opposite it. After consuming that mix of visual and literary inspiration, the following two pages consisted of an overarching question to ponder on one side with a short interpretive passage on the other.

The manner in which each offering tickled the soul before engaging the mind felt like a complete experience for the whole person, every single day. If there ever was a person who I felt was my long-lost brother, Graham would be that man. The sentiments shared through his images and words, with vulnerability and authenticity, seemed as if they were escaping from inside me as I was consuming them.

Then again, perhaps these are the types of things we’re all thinking about, and Graham has found a way to help us become more aware of them as part of our human existence.

Even the title of this book, “Time Has Come” feels apropos. There’s not the definitive article, “the” preceding the other words. There is no forced or rushed urgency to add that unnecessary piece of information. We’re all on the same journey, at different points along the way. No matter where we are, these drawings, poems, questions, and passages have a way of reaching the part of us that needs it the most.

Regardless of whether you’re a poetry person or not, this short book should be kept within arm’s reach. When you feel that nudge from inside that something’s not quite right, open up to any page and appreciate time has come to greet you with a wonderful opportunity.
